The 2095 school year at Jefferson-Crowley University, the United States’ premier training ground for magician soldiers, has barely begun. Freshman Kenzie Okuda and his friends, dubbed The God Slayers on social media, are cracking under the force of the media’s attention on them. Fighting the supreme religious ruler of the hostile neighboring nation of the United Republic of America to stop a religiously-themed invasion has brought The God Slayers international scrutiny.

 

Worse, Reverend John Paul Smith, Jr., the supreme religious ruler of the URA, wakes from his coma. He sends his magical nobility to the United States, claiming to exile them for their “unholy” use of magic. His great-niece and great-nephew, Ysabel and Tobin, arrive at Jefferson-Crowley. Rachel, Rev. Smith’s niece, warns The God Slayers that Ysabel and Tobin have been sent by the Reverend to assassinate them.

 

However, the ruling body of the United States’ magicians, the Noble Seven, believe Ysabel, Tobin, and the other magicians from the URA are genuinely helpless refugees.

 

The Noble Seven and JCU’s administration force The God Slayers to welcome Ysabel and Tobin as friends, igniting a tense cat and mouse game. Kenzie counsels his friends to keep their guards up and wait for Ysabel and Tobin to make a move. Meanwhile, Rachel, Shinrou, and Logan want to attack Ysabel and Tobin directly and drive the invaders from JCU. 

 

Amidst the chaos, the United States’ noble clan of mind magicians, the Andersons, proclaim Kenzie their protégé. Dr. Chase Anderson names himself Kenzie’s academic advisor against Kenzie’s wishes and enrolls Kenzie in his course, Introduction to Mind Magic. Kenzie’s only hope to escape the Andersons’ control over his future as a magician is to reconnect with the side of his family that his father ran away from.

 

As Kenzie races to find a family he has never known, The God Slayers come under attack from mind magic they can neither identify nor protect themselves from. With Moriah, Logan, and Makari compromised, and JCU and the Noble Seven turning a blind eye, Kenzie, Rachel, Shinrou, and Zoe fight to keep their minds free.

 

With no one left to trust except Iona, the mind magic princess of the Anderson clan who declared herself Kenzie’s enemy at the beginning of the school year, Kenzie and his friends must prove Ysabel and Tobin intend to brainwash the entire campus as part of another invasion attempt from Rev. Smith.

 

Only by facing their dark family histories and extending compassion to unlikely allies can The God Slayers overcome their enemies. Battling in the looming shadow of war between the United States and the United Republic of America, Kenzie and his friends must rethink who they are in order to remain their true selves.
