As someone who was raised in a fundamentalist Christian denomination, I find this post really hits me hard. When I was a child, everyone wanted to hyper-control what I believed. (Actually, most people still do.) No one seemed to care about my emotional or psychological welfare, and while a little attention was focused on how I behaved, it was only to hyper-control that as well. It was an entire world of "thou shalt not."
We should care more about children's mental health than controlling every thought and belief they have. Children are people, too.
