In some ways, beginning a sequel is easier than writing the first chapter of the first book of a series. Your characters have already been established, your world has already been built, and there are lingering threads left over from the first novel.
But then there's the moment when you actually sit down at the keyboard and have to frame "What Comes Next." I meant to do that Monday, but I had to sort out the through lines first. Then came considering how the characters would grow. Also, I had to get clear about what is at stake this time.
Maybe tonight I'll get the first words down on the page. You know that moment: the moment you first put black text down on that white computer screen.
